When I try to play a song, it shows “cannot connect”. But my ipad is connected to wifi and the internet is working fine. When I click on my account in the music app, it shows join apple music. But I already have the subscription. Then whats the problem? Can anyone help me? "

Do you also meet this problem? It is a common sync problem where Apple Music playlists disappear from a device, even though they're accessible on another device using the same Apple ID and subscription. In this article we will show you how to fix it.

Firstly, to sync your music library on all of your devices, you need to subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match.

What is Apple Music?

Apple Music is Apple's music streaming service with over 100 million songs and 30,000 playlists. It offer a 1-month free trial for all new customers. After the free trial, you need to pay for a plan if you want to continue using the service. Besides its own catalog, Apple Music also allows you to access your entire library from any device and listen online or off.

How to subscribe to Apple Music

  1. Open the Apple Music app or iTunes. You can also go to music.apple.com to subscribe.
  2. Go to Listen Now or For You.
  3. Tap or click the trial offer (one trial per person or family).
  4. Choose a plan: Individual($10.99/month), Student($5.99/month), Family($16.99/month for 6 accounts).
  5. Sign in with the Apple ID and password.
  6. Confirm your billing information and add a valid payment method.
  7. Tap or click Join.

What is iTunes Match?

iTunes Match ($24.99 per year) gives you access to all of your music on all of your devices, even songs that you've imported from other sources such as CDs. It uploads your music library from the Music app on your Mac or iTunes on your Windows. Then you can access your music library on all of your devices that have Sync Library turned on. Compared to Apple Music, you can only sync your existing music library across all of your devices, not including any music from the Apple Music catalog.

How to subscribe to iTunes Match

  1. On your Mac, open Music app. On your Windows, open iTunes.
  2. On your Mac, go to the sidebar and click iTunes Store. On your Windows, click Store at the top of the iTunes window.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Store window. Under Features, click iTunes Match.
  4. Click the Subscribe button.
  5. Sign in with the Apple ID and password.
  6. Confirm your billing information.

If you have subscribed to Apple Music or iTunes Match, check these things:

Check your settings and network connection on all of your devices:

Check your Apple ID

If you sign out of your Apple ID, you won’t be able to access and sync your music library on all of your devices. Make sure you are using the same Apple ID on your devices. To check your Apple ID:

  • On your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, open Music app, tap Listen Now. Tap Account icon in the upper-right corner. Tap Account Settings. Here you can see the Apple ID.
  • On your Mac, open Music app. Click Account and you can see the Apple ID.
  • On your Windows, open iTunes. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, click Account and you can see the Apple ID. If you haven't logged in yet, click Sign in and enter your Apple ID and password.

Check your Apple Music subscription

If you cancel your Apple Music or iTunes Match subscription, you won’t be able to access and sync your music library on all of your devices.

  • On your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, open Settings and tap on your name at the top of the screen. Then, tap Subscriptions. Here, you’ll see the current status of your Apple Music subscription. If you have multiple subscriptions, you may have to tap on Apple Music to see the status of your account.
  • On your Mac, open Music app. Click Account - View My Account. Sign in with your Apple ID. Scroll to the Settings section and click Manage next to Subscriptions. Here you will find your Apple Music subscription.
  • On your Windows, open iTunes. From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, click Account - View My Account. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID. Scroll to the Settings section. Next to Subscriptions, click Manage. Here you will find your Apple Music subscription.

Turn Sync Library off and on again

You might be able to fix your issue by turning Sync Library off for all of your devices, then turning it back on again. f you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won’t see an option to turn on iCloud Music Library(on iTunes for Windows) or Sync Library(on Music app).

  • On your iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, Go to Settings > Music > Toggle the "Sync Library" switch to OFF. Wait for a minute or two, then turn the "Sync Library" back on.
  • On your Mac, open the Apple Music app. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Music > Preferences. Go to the General tab and select Sync Library to turn it on.
  • On your Windows, open iTunes. From the menu bar at the top of your screen, choose Edit > Preferences. Go to the General tab and select iCloud Music Library to turn it on.

If it's taking a long time to upload your music library

If most of your music was imported from sources other than Apple Music, or you have a large music library, it might take more time for your music library to upload. Keep the Apple Music app or iTunes open until your music library is finished uploading.

If songs are missing from your music library after you turn on Sync Library

If you can't find or play a song, check if you added it from Apple Music. If it came from another source, the song might be waiting to upload. Try these steps:

  1. Turn on your Mac or PC and connect it to the Internet.
  2. Open the Music app or iTunes for Windows.
  3. Keep the Music app or iTunes for Windows open so your library can finish uploading.
