4 Ways to Listen to iTunes Music on Sonos

"The ‘On this iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch’ feature has been removed from the Sonos app for iOS. Sonos on my iPhone no longer lists “songs on this phone” as an option. How can I listen to my iTunes library on my sonos?"

If you have the same confusion, you have come to the right place. Here we'll introduce options for playing your iTunes music on Sonos:

Option 1. Use AirPlay

If you have an Apple AirPlay 2-compatible Sonos speaker, you can play Apple Music to Sonos with AirPlay.

To stream audio to Sonos with AirPlay, you’ll need one of these Sonos products in your system:

  • Sonos One
  • Sonos One SL
  • Move
  • Beam
  • Amp
  • Playbase
  • Play:5 (gen 2)
  • SYMFONISK

To use AirPlay, access the Control Center on your iOS device. You can open the Control Center on an iPhone or iPod touch by swiping up from the bottom of the screen. On an iPhone X or iPad, you can do this by swiping down from the top right of the screen. Tap the icon in the audio card, then tap one or more of your Sonos products in the list to start sending them AirPlay audio.

If you don’t have AirPlay 2 capable Sonos products, here are some other options:

Option 2. Use Music Streaming Service

Upload your iTunes music library to music service with a storage feature, such as Apple Music or Google Play Music.

If you subscribed to Apple Music subscription , you can also access the entire iTunes library and stream them to Sonos.

If you don't have Apple Music subscription , Google Play Music has a free account option that allows you to upload 50,000 tracks and play them which works with Sonos.

If you have Spotify subscription, import your music library to Spotify .

Option 3. Use Sonos Desktop Controller App

You can share your personal Music Library tracks with Sonos in just a few simple steps. Sonos makes it easy to stream your music library from any computer or network-attached storage (NAS ) device on your network throughout your home. Before you begin, make sure you download the Sonos Desktop Controller App for Mac or PC and install it on the computer that contains your music library files.

Adding your music library using a desktop controller

  1. From the “Manage” menu, select “Music Library Settings”.
  2. Click + (plus) on a Mac, or “Add” if you are using a PC.
  3. If you use iTunes or are not sure where your music is stored, leave “In My Music folder” selected. If your music is located outside of the My Music folder, select the appropriate option.
  4. Type in your computer's password if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete adding your music library. Depending on the size of your music library it may take up to 15 minutes to index.

Option 4. Enjoy Apple Music on Sonos After Subscription Ends

AirPlay allows you to stream music stored on your iOS device or Mac to your Sonos system. The Sonos Desktop Controller app also supports playing local music.
